Writing for the Future of the Planet

赌博威尼斯人Good writing can change the world—even, perhaps, a world that is already changing. The writer that aspires to alter the course of ecological crisis will need good stories, persuasive rhetoric, and a keen critical eye, as well as broad scientific literacy and a knack for observation. In this class, we will explore how language can address some of the most pressing issues of our time, including climate change, natural disaster, biodiversity loss, and more. In doing so, we'll work hard to hone the writing skills that will allow us to translate hard global facts into engaging, local narratives and clear arguments that can engage many audiences at once. To this end, we'll read and discuss effective science writing, spend time observing and describing nature, and carefully workshop each other's writing. Students will produce, for their final project, a polished article intended for a public audience.
