Theory of Relativity

Developed a little more than a hundred years ago, Einstein's Theory of Relativity is a groundbreaking scientific breakthrough that revolutionized our understanding of space and time. How are space and time intertwined? What happens at high speeds or strong gravitational fields? What are black holes? Finally, how do we test this theory?

This course is split into two parts: In the first part, the course will cover Special Relativity. In the second part, students will explore the fundamental ideas behind General Relativity. Besides mastering the mathematical tools used in Relativity, students are strongly encouraged to gain physical intuition of the new ideas. Students will engage in the course via interactive lectures, problem solving sessions in groups, a visit to the Physics department at Stanford, and a final group presentation of a relevant topic of their choice.
