It is also responsible for most of the classical mechanical forces and the foundation for fields ranging from electrical engineering and environmental engineering to physical chemistry and materials science. On a large scale, we observe the universe through electromagnetic radiation (light, for example); on a small scale, our smartphones consist of billions of electrical components called transistors.
Stressing physical understanding and practical applications with projects such as motors, electromagnets, circuit design, and optics, this course will provide students with a robust knowledge of the principles of electromagnetism while grounding that knowledge in physical experience and observation. Our focus on problem solving and laboratory investigation will give them the confidence to reason intuitively about electromagnetic interactions as they progress in their studies.
